Bruges is one big open-air museum, as it is one of the best preserved mediaeval cities in the whole of Europe. Much of its reputation is owed to the numerous buildings and institutions that have obtained a museum status because of their historical heritage. There are many private museums (beside the 12 official ones) which offer an interesting view on the various aspects of this marvelous city.
