| The Memling Museum occupies part of the Old St.-John's Hospital (12th and 17th century), one of the oldest surviving mediaeval hospitals in Europe. The atmospheric and historic wards recall everyday life at the hospital by a wide variety of paintings, sculpture furniture and decorative art. The 17th-century pharmacy has been comletely preserved. In the church and the adjacent Cornelius Chapel, six authentic masterpieces by Hans Memling are on display, namely: Triptych of the Adoration of the Magi , The Lamentation over Christ , the Altarpiece of St.-John the Baptist and St.-John the Evangelist , The St.-Ursula Shrine , the Portrait of a Woman, or the Sibyl Sambetha, Virgin and Child and Martin van Nieuwenhove, and Descent from the Cross according to Rogier Van der Weyden. |
