VirtualBruges Museums - Arents House

The Arents House, which is named after a well-known Bruges family, is a delightful 18th century town house situated at Dijver 16. The house is now the home of the 'Lace Museum', where a rich collection of lace is on display. The excellent drawings of the Brangwyn collection are also there to admire.

The lace museum is housed on the lower floor, with an extensive and varied collection of antique lace. This includes needlepoint lace, bobbin lace and mixed lace from Flemish centres such as Bruges, Mechelen and Brussels, as well as some lace from abroad. Paintings illustrate how lace has been used to decorate clothing over the centuries.

On the first floor you will find a summary of the work of Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956), a British artist with many different talents, who was born in Bruges. In the museum's third hall the Bruges Fan can be found. As well as this donation the collection also includes historical views of the city, beautiful lace work and antique musical instruments.
