VirtualBruges Museums - Lace Centre

Jerusalem Church
The Kantcentrum (Lace Centre) is housed in one of the restored almshouses next to the Jerusalem Church. These almshouses were endowed by the noble Adornes family in the 15th century.

Educational panels give visitors an opportunity to see how the lace has developed over time. There are also a number of examples of 16th century passementerie, through baroque lace used in clothing in the 17th century and refined lace designs from Northern France and the Southern Netherlands.

Lacemaking demonstrations are regularly given here, and in the attached shop, those who are interested can buy equipment which will allow them to start work themselves. If you want to find out more about Binche, Rosaline PerlČe or Duchesse lace, this is the place to find expert advice about this queen of crafts.
