| Brouwerij Straffe Hendrik is situated at Wal Square No. 26. All the activity of this brewery, which has existed since 1856, centres on the production of Straffe Hendrik, an excellent, highly fermented beer made from malt, hops and a special kind of yeast. Henri Maes was the first to begin brewing here, producing various different beers such as Fara, Bok, Dubbel Bruin and many others. He also marketed a wide range of soft drinks and fruit juices. In the brewery museum you can still see how the work used to be done in those early days.
