| The city's Folklore Museum is housed in the former Shoemakers' Almshouses. This museum can be found at Rolweg 40 near the Guido Gezelle museum and right opposite the Lace Centre. The cottages were probably built in the seventeenth century. Well stocked collections and reconstructed interiors evoke the atmosphere of how people lived in earlier times and their crafts. In this museum you will find interiors from bygone centuries, with life-like presentations of how a grocery store, a hatter's shop and an apothecary's would have looked. The museum also contains the pipe collection of former minister Achilles Van Acker, traditional costumes, devotional objects etc. The "De zwarte kat" museum inn is also worth a visit. |
